Course Overview

The 6-year General Medicine (MBBS equivalent) program at Pavlov First St. Petersburg State Medical University is designed to provide intensive medical education through early clinical immersion, scientific research, and advanced patient-centered training. Students begin with comprehensive instruction in anatomy, physiology, histology, biochemistry, molecular biology, pathology, and pharmacology while developing practical laboratory skills from the first years of study. One of the program’s distinguishing features is its extensive use of university clinics and simulation facilities, allowing students to build clinical competence before direct patient interaction.

Senior students receive supervised training in specialized departments including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, cardiology, neurology, oncology, obstetrics & gynecology, and intensive care. The curriculum also promotes participation in clinical research, evidence-based medicine, and multidisciplinary healthcare, enabling students to integrate scientific knowledge with clinical decision-making. Through continuous bedside teaching, hospital internships, and comprehensive clinical assessments, graduates develop the expertise expected of physicians in modern healthcare systems.
