General Medicine – ASMU

Course Overview

The 6-year General Medicine (MBBS equivalent) program at Altai State Medical University combines traditional medical education with extensive practical training to prepare students for professional clinical practice. During the pre-clinical phase, students study anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical genetics through lectures, laboratory classes, and practical exercises. The curriculum places considerable emphasis on developing hands-on clinical skills using simulation technologies before students begin direct patient interaction.

Clinical education is delivered through affiliated regional hospitals and specialized healthcare facilities, where students undertake supervised rotations in internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, traumatology, neurology, infectious diseases, and anesthesiology. The program also includes training in preventive medicine, public health, rehabilitation, and medical ethics to promote a holistic understanding of patient care. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to engage in scientific research, academic seminars, and clinical case discussions, enabling them to graduate with strong diagnostic abilities, practical competence, and the professional skills required for future medical careers.
