General Medicine – IMSFMSMU

Course Overview

The 6-year General Medicine (MBBS equivalent) program at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University is designed around an integrated medical education model that combines biomedical sciences with continuous clinical training from the early years. Students begin by studying anatomy, physiology, histology, biochemistry, genetics, and medical informatics before advancing into organ-system pathology and disease management. A distinctive feature of the program is its emphasis on simulation-based education, where clinical procedures and emergency scenarios are practiced in dedicated simulation centres before students enter hospital wards.

As the course progresses, learning shifts to university hospitals and specialized institutes, where students participate in bedside teaching, diagnostic workups, surgical observations, and multidisciplinary case discussions. The curriculum also incorporates evidence-based medicine, translational research, digital healthcare technologies, and elective clinical disciplines, allowing students to develop both academic and practical competencies. Graduates complete comprehensive state examinations after extensive rotations across major medical specialties, preparing them for postgraduate medical education and international licensing pathways.
