Course Overview

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program at SIU School of Medicine is a 4-year full-time graduate medical degree accredited by the LCME. The curriculum utilizes problem-based learning (PBL), standardized patient simulation, primary care training, and clerkships in Central/Southern Illinois.

Graduates receive the title of Medical Doctor (MD), complying with U.S. licensing requirements (USMLE) and ACGME residency eligibility.

Entry Requirements

  • 90+ semester hours at an accredited US college required.
  • MCAT required (507+ target); TOEFL iBT for non-native speakers.
  • 1 semester Math/Stats; Bio, Gen Chem, Org Chem, Physics, English.
  • Only U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible for admission. The institution operates under a state legislative mandate that prioritizes applicants from Central and Southern Illinois. International applicants requiring F-1 visa sponsorship are not accepted.
  • Applicants applying through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) should submit either a Committee Letter Packet or three individual Letters of Recommendation (LORs) from individuals who can evaluate the applicant’s academic achievements, leadership qualities, professionalism, and potential for success in medical school.
