Course Overview

The 6-year General Medicine (MBBS equivalent) program at Astrakhan State Medical University is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of medical sciences through an integrated curriculum that combines academic instruction with continuous clinical practice. Students begin by studying anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, and pharmacology before progressing into disease-oriented clinical disciplines. Practical learning is introduced from the early years through anatomy laboratories, simulation facilities, and clinical skills centres where students develop examination techniques, procedural skills, and patient communication.

Clinical training is conducted in affiliated teaching hospitals across internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, cardiology, neurology, infectious diseases, and emergency medicine. The program also emphasizes preventive medicine, epidemiology, and evidence-based healthcare, enabling students to understand both individual patient management and community health. Through extensive bedside teaching, internships, and final state assessments, graduates acquire the clinical competence and professional confidence expected of modern physicians.
