Course Overview

The 6-year General Medicine (MBBS equivalent) program at Petrozavodsk State University is designed to develop future physicians through a balanced curriculum that integrates fundamental medical sciences with progressive clinical education. Students begin with anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, medical biology, and microbiology before advancing into pathology, pharmacology, immunology, and clinical diagnostics. Practical training is introduced from the early years through anatomy laboratories, simulation facilities, and clinical skills workshops that strengthen examination and procedural techniques.

Clinical rotations are conducted in affiliated hospitals where students receive supervised experience in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, cardiology, infectious diseases, and emergency medicine. The curriculum also incorporates preventive medicine, evidence-based clinical practice, and community healthcare, encouraging students to understand medicine from both scientific and public health perspectives. Continuous bedside teaching, internships, and practical assessments ensure graduates develop the competence and professionalism expected in modern healthcare.
