General Medicine – DSMU

Course Overview

The General Medicine (MBBS equivalent) program at Dagestan State Medical University follows a comprehensive six-year curriculum that combines foundational medical sciences with continuous practical and clinical training. Students initially study anatomy, physiology, histology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, and pharmacology while developing laboratory and communication skills through practical sessions. The university emphasizes competency-based education, gradually introducing students to patient examination, diagnostic methods, and procedural techniques using simulation laboratories before clinical placements.

Hospital-based learning takes place in affiliated teaching hospitals where students rotate through internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, cardiology, neurology, infectious diseases, and emergency medicine. The curriculum also highlights preventive healthcare, public health, and ethical medical practice to support holistic patient management.
