General Medicine – SPSU

Course Overview

The 6-year General Medicine (MBBS equivalent) program at Saint Petersburg State University integrates classical medical education with a strong emphasis on biomedical sciences, clinical reasoning, and research-based learning. The curriculum begins with anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and genetics before advancing into pathology, pharmacology, immunology, and clinical medicine. A distinguishing aspect of the program is its close connection between academic departments, research laboratories, and affiliated clinical centres, allowing students to understand the scientific basis of disease alongside patient care.

Practical education includes simulation-based skills training, laboratory diagnostics, and supervised clinical rotations in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, cardiology, neurology, oncology, and emergency medicine. Students are encouraged to participate in research projects and interdisciplinary medical education, strengthening analytical thinking and evidence-based clinical practice. By integrating academic excellence with extensive hospital exposure, the program prepares graduates for modern medical practice and postgraduate specialization.
