Doctor of Medicine (MD) – UPRSM

Course Overview

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program at UPR School of Medicine is a 4-year full-time graduate medical degree accredited by the LCME. The curriculum combines preclinical biomedical sciences, bilingual clinical practice, community medicine, and clerkship rotations in Puerto Rico.

Graduates receive the title of Medical Doctor (MD), complying with U.S. licensing requirements (USMLE) and ACGME residency eligibility.

Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor degree required; coursework at an accredited institution.
  • MCAT required (503+ target); Bilingual (Spanish & English) required.
  • 6 Credit Hours Math; Bio (8 Credit Hours), Gen Chem (8 Credit Hours), Org Chem (8 Credit Hours), Physics (8 Credit Hours), Humanities.
  • Admission is restricted to U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents. As part of its institutional mission, the medical school gives significant preference to qualified applicants who are residents of Puerto Rico. International applicants requiring F-1 student visa sponsorship are not eligible.
  • Applicants applying through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) should submit either a Committee Letter Packet or three individual faculty Letters of Recommendation (LORs) from professors who have taught the applicant and can evaluate their academic performance, professionalism, and preparedness for medical education.
