Doctor of Medicine (MD) – UNMSM

Course Overview

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program at UNM School of Medicine is a 4-year full-time graduate medical degree accredited by the LCME. The curriculum features problem-based learning (PBL), cultural competency, rural health initiatives, and clinical rotations at UNM Hospital.

Graduates receive the title of Medical Doctor (MD), complying with U.S. licensing requirements (USMLE) and ACGME residency eligibility.

Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited US institution required.
  • MCAT required (505+ target); TOEFL iBT for foreign degrees.
  • 1 semester Math/Stats; Bio, Gen Chem, Org Chem, Physics, Writing.
  • Only U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents, and DACA recipients are eligible for admission. As New Mexico’s public medical school, the institution gives strong preference to qualified in-state residents. International applicants requiring F-1 student visa sponsorship are not accepted.
  • Applicants applying through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) should submit either a Committee Letter or three to four individual academic Letters of Recommendation (LORs) from faculty members who can assess the applicant’s academic achievements, professionalism, and preparedness for medical education.
