Course Overview

The Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Program at SHSU-COM is a 4-year full-time graduate medical degree accredited by COCA. The curriculum combines basic sciences, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM), rural health emphasis, and clinical clerkships across East Texas healthcare facilities.

Graduates receive the title of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), complying with U.S. licensing requirements (COMLEX-USA / USMLE) and ACGME residency eligibility.

Entry Requirements

  • 90+ undergraduate semester hours at an accredited US college.
  • MCAT required (506+ target); TOEFL iBT for non-native speakers.
  • 3 Credit Hours Stats; Bio (12 Credit Hours), Gen Chem (8 Credit Hours), Org Chem (8 Credit Hours), Physics (8 Credit Hours).
  • Only U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible for admission. Applications are processed through TMDSAS, and preference is given to Texas residents. International applicants requiring F-1 student visas are not accepted.
  • Applicants applying through the Texas Medical & Dental Schools Application Service (TMDSAS) should submit either a Pre-Health Committee Letter Packet or three individual Letters of Recommendation (LORs) from academic faculty or professionals who are familiar with the applicant’s qualifications, academic achievements, and potential for success in medical education.
